“Fortress of love”
With its severe, military, tremendous appearance, the tower of Noha was capable of generating respect and fear in the traveller who approached it. The 14th-century aedificium had a function of sighting and defending the ancient village of Noha, in need of protection from plundering, kidnapping and raids by corsairs and freebooters of all kinds.
The tower, which reaches a height of 10 metres, was built with regular tuff ashlars from the quarries of Cutrofiano. Crowned by a series of small arches and corbels, it has some gargoyles carved in stone at the top, necessary for the drainage of rainwater from the terrace (with a barrel vault).
The tower is connected to the ground floor by means of an iron drawbridge connected to a massive ‘Romanesque’ ramp or walkway with a chute, whose carparo framework is architecturally pointed, with perimeter edging having a semi-circular section.
The mechanism of the drawbridge, still in working order, involves a tipping platform operated by a system of levers and pulleys with force transmission through steel chains and counterweights.
Outpost of wealthy seigniory now the essence of charm, Nohasi stands in a historic residence guarded for four centuries by barons, duchesses and noble families. Golden brick terraces, aristocratic courtyards, and a medieval tower with drawbridge, saved by careful restoration, are a sign of this land’s love for its roots.
The ancient walls of the castle, now a baronial palace, ooze with the excellent brandy distilled by the aristocratic Galluccio family, while the lampante oil, produced in the underground oil mill of the Nohano manor, still seems to light up every corner of this place made of beautiful old stones.
Here and Now you can enjoy unique moments in Nohasi Palace Hotel where time stands still only to make room for your well-being. A finely restored historic residence of eternal beauty, where refined rooms steeped in history and tradition will transport you to another dimension: the past and the future cancel out, only the present counts, your #QuìeOra.
